Jon Amor

In the early nineties, from a tiny village in deepest darkest Wiltshire, there came a band with fire in its belly and blues in its heart, and that band was called The Hoax. One of the four was Jon Amor, a long, lean guitar player who, along with his cohorts toured the UK Europe and the USA for eight years, with four successful albums and a string of awards to their name.

As frontman with his own band AMOR, Jon established himself as a talented singer and songwriter in his own right, releasing two influential albums that gave British blues rock a much-needed shot in the arm.

Jon disbanded AMOR in 2005 to concentrate on solo performances of songs from his album “Unknown Soldier”, produced by Stephen Evans (Robert Plant, Goldfrapp, Thea Gilmore). This highly acclaimed album bears Amor’s hallmark freshness and originality, endorsed by an outstanding guest appearance from legendary Robert Plant on ‘Ball & Chain’, and featuring drummer Clive Deamer of Portishead and Roni Size fame.

“Unknown Soldier is a truly great album.” Mark Lamarr, BBC Radio 2

“if you liked the sheer dynamic exuberance of the Amor band albums, light and acoustic one moment then grinding electricity the next, you can pick this up with this writer’s hearty recommendation.” Blues Matters! Magazine

Jon followed up the success of Unknown Soldier with the more stripped-down acoustic studio album, “Stories From The Crooked Room”, which features a collection of finely crafted songs recorded in in just two days in the living room of his house with his live band - Dave Doherty on guitar, Chris Doherty on bass and Simon Small on drums.

“Stories From The Crooked Room is effortlessly contemporary and sparking with electricity when it counts.”   www.fairhearing.com

“Mature songwriting, fine voice and customary great playing…. another winner from one of the good guys out there!” Chester Chronicle

In July 2011 Jon released a live solo acoustic album entitled “Live & Unreleased”, featuring live performances of some of his best-known songs as well as some more obscure tracks. Jon’s main focus however is now with JON AMOR BLUES GROUP, in which he has joined forces once more with Simon Small and the Doherty brothers to produce a raw, high-energy, contemporary blues sound. JON AMOR BLUES GROUP will tour the UK & Europe extensively throughout 2011 and the debut album is set for release on September 19th 2011.
